3M Wants to Make Your Job Easier

By Cinzia Cuneo, Ph.D., Manager Quality and Technical Service
3M Photo Color Systems Division

Cinzia Cuneo, Ph.D., is the technical service and quality manager for 3M Photo Color Systems Division. She joined 3M in 1982 as a technical service representative in Ferrania, Italy. She held a number of technical service positions in various European countries before being named to her current position in St. Paul, Minn., this May. Cinzia is a graduate of Politecnico University, Torino, Italy, and has a doctorate degree from Polytechnique University, Montreal, Canada. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing, sailing and classical music.

We're not the Gold Box, and we're not the Green Box. In fact, it's hard to call 3M any one color because we come in so many different boxes.

You may know 3M's ScotchColor™ print film, Polaroid OneFilm™ or some 3M-manufactured store brand films, like Target and Kmart's Focal™ film.

We'd like you to know that we want to make your job easier. Our mission is to provide you with information and tools to produce consistent, high- quality results from 3M film.

Our first step is the enclosed laminated color printer balance guide for all 3M-manufactured film. It gives you our recommendations for printing the current generation of 3M films, as well as all the previous generations that might cross your counter. We've also included an updated list of our store brand films.

In addition, we're sending you stickers printed with 3M Photo Color Systems Division's Technical Service Helpline number, 800/233-8579. Stick them on your phone or counter for easy reference. Our professional photographic technical service team is on hand to answer your questions Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. central time. (Meet a few of our technical service team members on page 2.)

You may remember receiving past issues of 3M LabLine. This new version has been redesigned to better serve your needs. No sales pitches. No marketing hype. Just helpful information on a quarterly basis to answer the questions that you -- and your customers -- are asking.

We think you'll find this and future issues of 3M LabLine to be a helpful tool you'll want to save for reference. So we're making it easy by offering you a free three-ring binder. Just fill out the enclosed pre-paid response card and drop it in the mail by Nov. 30.

Some of you already have sent us your questions and ideas about how we can help make your job easier. We encourage input from all of you. Have a question? A common customer complaint? Call our Technical Service Helpline at 800/233-8579. Or write us at 3M LabLine, 3M Center Bldg. 235-2C-10, St. Paul, MN, 55144-1000.

We've got your (800) number

"If you are not satisfied with the performance of this film, it will be replaced with a fresh roll or the purchase price refunded."

As part of our commitment to customer service, 3M Photo Color Systems Division has some toll-free telephone numbers that put you in direct contact with our trained, professional answer team.

3M Technical Service: Meet Some of Our Team

John Hafer

Eddie Midthun

Pat O'Day

A toll-free telephone number is a good place for customer service to start. But a disembodied voice floating over a telephone wire is not what makes excellent customer service. It takes much more: a trained, experienced staff with a commitment to quality and service.

We'd like to introduce you personally to a few of 3M Photo Color Systems Division's professional photographic technical service representatives who are on hand to respond to your questions or concerns.

John Hafer has been with 3M for two years. He brings to the team extensive knowledge of process and printing controls, having spent 17 years as quality control manager at a major photo finishing laboratory. John is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y. A self-proclaimed "computer buff," John also is interested in electronics.

In his 20 years with 3M, Eddie Midthun has held positions in photographic research, quality assurance and technical service that have given him experience working with commercial, professional and school portrait laboratories. He is a graduate of St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minn. Also known as "Captain," Eddie is an outdoorsy type who teaches skiing in the winter and enjoys biking and backpacking in the summer.

Another 3M veteran, Pat O'Day has been with 3M for nearly 20 years. Prior to joining the technical service team, Pat was involved in manufacturing photographic film and paper and installing photographic equipment. He holds certificates from a number of professional training programs and is the resident expert on 3M's Photogard™ protector for negatives and prints. In his spare time, Pat likes to snow ski and water ski, and is interested in motorcycles and electronics.
